SHAWN DONATO Shawn
Donato is an English teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has been published
both in small press and online. She is currently working toward an MA in
Education at the College of Santa Fe. RHYTHM Hiding behind my headphones Music so loud the outside
world can’t find me Listening to the rhythmic play Between musicians Lost in my thoughts Twisting between the
vibrations Wending their way through my
head Looking for something I cannot
yet find Wishing I was the one You were singing to The one to inspire This delicately balanced
symphony Wondering if I try hard enough If I can’t make my way Into your rhythm And become one with the music
FREEDOM Freedom, sweet freedom Tickling at my subconscious Making me long for more Hoping to find the answers To questions unknown Rattling in my head Freedom, sweet freedom Reaching out to me Daring me to jump Steeling myself Against the conflicts That may change my mind Freedom, sweet freedom Pulling irresistibly Promising riches Creating opportunities For myself Clearing my vision Freedom, sweet freedom Becoming mine Healing my soul
