MARGARET RONDA

I live in Oakland, CA, and am a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. My poems have been widely published in journals such as AGNI, Prairie Schooner, 14 Hills, Faultline, Seattle Review, and in the forthcoming anthology Ghosting Atoms, edited by Lyn Hejinian.

BLACK SQUARE

It was west and then sleep, a blue screen we could not

walk through. String of goldfish in unlit rooms, a capsulated

dream of strict eavesdropping. Half listening, wandering

into bony havens of birdsong. Then recalled by a little

scar in conversation. A kind of light stopped in the orange gill.

At last lulled from kindness by the darker square, a condensed

unparticular numbness. A minus sign glows the murky water.
